Rhythmic Forces

This work is an extension of ideas that began in grad school.  It was being done at the same time I was making the plant impressed ware as saleable work.  I had taken dance classes in grad school, modern, jazz, even a little ballet, and was interested in capturing the exuberant experience of dance movement in clay.  In these pieces a gesture in recorded in the clay and then repeated many times while moving slowly down the slab.  While the rhythm of dance was the original impetus for the work,  it grew to encompass other rhythms in nature. The pieces are fairly small, no larger than 10" in any direction.
